The National Theatre's Annual Report for 2020 was designed at the height of the covid pandemic in the spring of 2021, a sad time characterised by the wearing of masks and respirators, the ubiquitous disinfectant dispensers, the closing of theatres (not only) and the waiting for a new beginning.
The theme of our annual report, which we have workingly titled "Covered", reflects this cheerless period. The cover, front cover and infographic pages are symbolically hidden under plastic. Photographs of staff in an empty theatre add to the sense of desolation. Never more!
